Steven Spazuk is a master of a process known as “fumage”, which involves painting with fire. Steven uses the soot of a flame to create captivating designs and exquisitely detailed images. The fire scorches and kisses wisps of black carbon residue, which shapes the silhouettes of his figures. He then carefully scratches away and crafts the soot to reveal each composition as beautiful works of art. The focus of his subjects, projects and collections is the relationships between humans and the natural world. His creations emerge from a haze, often juxtaposing man-made objects with nature's beauty and resilience.
Steven’s artwork can be seen in galleries in New York and Palm Beach. He works at his Quebec studio, along with his wife. His beautiful works of art are expertly reproduced on the world's most famous miniature canvas - a Zippo lighter.
