Chris Zumpano accepts the Blaisdell Pro Am $50,000 top pro prize from George Duke, Zippo owner and chairman of the board.

August 2, 2017– Chris Zumpano, PGA pro at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester NY, earned the title Blaisdell Pro Am 2017 champion after beating out two other pros in a playoff round on July 25 at Pennhills Club in Bradford, PA. 

Zumpano, shot a birdie on hole 18 in the playoff, beating out PGA pros Patrick Damore and Michael O’Connor from Erie, PA clubs. Zumpano takes home the Blaisdell Pro Am golf tournament’s $50,000 top pro prize, one of the largest club pro payouts in North America. The event has a pro purse of $100,000.

Taking the amateur top prize for gross score of 133 was Keith Stauffer, Gene Fazio, and Josh Stauffer, with pro Steve Barber, and the top amateur net score of 125 was Pete Pascarella, Matt Monago, and Boo Coder, with pro Mark Kirk. 32 foursomes competed in the tournament this year, the largest ever. 

“We are proud to sponsor this annual tournament to honor of my grandfather, Zippo founder George Blaisdell,” said George Duke, Zippo owner and chairman of the board.  

Before Mr. Blaisdell achieved success for inventing the Zippo Windproof lighter, he was known throughout the community as an avid and talented golfer. On October 7, 1950, Blaisdell hit a hole-in-one on the course, making a shot 142 yards with a 6-iron.

Each year, the Blaisdell Pro Am brings together PGA class “A” pros and amateurs from across the country. The tournament is part of the annual schedule for the Western New York Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.
