Why should I send in my warranty registration card?
To register for the limited one year warranty due to defects in materials and/or workmanship.
Does my Zippo Hand Warmer have lighter fluid when I first get it?
No. Hand Warmers are shipped without lighter fluid. Please add lighter fluid before using. We recommend the use of Zippo brand lighter fluid.
How do I ignite my Hand Warmer?
With the lid off the Hand Warmer, hold the base unit with one hand and apply flame to the catalytic burner unit for 15 to 30 seconds using the other hand. Flame can come from a Zippo lighter or other lighter. Keep hands and clothing away from any flame. After ignition has been confirmed, replace Hand Warmer lid, let the unit heat for 1- 2 minutes (NO LONGER!) then, taking care in handling the Hand Warmer, carefully place it into the provided bag. The Hand Warmer must always be placed in the provided bag to prevent over-heating. Your Zippo Hand Warmer will now provide comfortable warmth. After ignition, heat is provided by a catalytic process without flame. Once ignited there is no way to stop the heating action. If necessary, place the Hand Warmer in the bag and place on a fireproof surface until the fuel is exhausted and the Hand Warmer is cool to the touch.
I lost the handy filler for my Hand Warmer – how much lighter fluid should I use?
Model available prior to 2010 – 12 ml or .41 fluid ounces. Model available 2010 and later – 20 ml or .7 fluid ounces.
Will the lighter fluid evaporate from my Hand Warmer if I don’t use it all?
Yes. All lighter fluid will evaporate in time. Please fill before using Hand Warmer.
How long does one fill last or how often does it need refilled?
If you fill the plastic filling cup to the lower line, the Hand Warmer will keep heat up to 6 hours. If you fill the plastic filling cup to the upper line, the Hand Warmer will keep heat up to 12 hours. Please be advised the heat time will vary. It may last a little less or more than advised.
Does my Hand Warmer require a flint?
No, the Hand Warmer generates heat only when an external source of flame is applied to the burner to begin the catalytic process.
Does the Hand Warmer need oxygen to operate?
Yes. The Zippo Hand Warmer requires oxygen for the heating process to occur. The bag regulates the amount of oxygen. Do not use it without the provided bag because it will get too hot.
How do I stop my Hand Warmer from heating?
Once the Hand Warmer is ignited there is no way to stop the heating action. If necessary, place the Hand Warmer in the bag and place on a fireproof surface until the fuel is exhausted and the Hand Warmer is cool to the touch.
My Hand Warmer isn’t getting very hot, what do I do?
Carefully, to avoid getting burned, check the burner. It should fit tightly. The burner may not have ignited properly. Repeat the lighting instructions. Make sure there is enough lighter fluid in the Hand Warmer. Lighter fluid will evaporate even when Hand Warmer is not in use. The burner might need replacing. Burners need replacing after approximately 70 uses.
The burner is starting to come apart, will it affect performance?
Yes. Test Hand Warmer by following lighting instructions. If lighting or heating performance is affected,
replacement burners are available for purchase.
How long will the burner last?Burner lifetime varies with usage but you can expect approximately 70 uses.
