Blaisdell Pro Am Increases Purse to $100K

May 16,2016 – The Blaisdell Pro Am Invitational at the Pennhills Club returns July 25 with a cash prize purse of $100,000. The winnings of this year’s golfing exhibition have increased more than $70,000 since 2015, which furthers the reputation of the Blaisdell Pro Am as one of the most substantial tournament payouts in North America.

“It’s been thrilling see how the Blaisdell Pro Am has grown over the past few years,” said Jake Northrup, Pennhill’s head in-house PGA golf professional. font>

“This tournament has helped us bring an unprecedented level of attention and attendance to the Pennhills Club,” said Northrup. “With the increased prize purse this year, we expect to see even more excitement from both professional and amateur golfers who will be joining us from across the country.”

The event is sponsored by Zippo Manufacturing Company in memory of founder George G. Blaisdell. The tournament brings together PGA professionals and amateurs from across the country. The Blaisdell Pro Am is part of the annual schedule for the Western New York Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.

Zippo earns ISO 9001:2008 certification

April 29, 2016 – – Zippo is pleased to announce it has earned ISO 9001:2008 certification by meeting international standards for quality management systems at the company’s manufacturing facility in Bradford, Pennsylvania.

Zippo’s manufacturing management system was registered as ISO 9001:2008 compliant following an in-depth audit process conducted by NSF International, an internationally accredited third party registrar headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Zippo Vice President of Operations Tim Van Horn said, “The ISO certification indicates that Zippo has a strong and consistent management system that produces a quality, high-end product. The entire Zippo team has put substantial effort into making sure that Zippo continues to exceed the ISO guidelines and manufacture our products to meet the highest possible standards.”

ISO International Standards ensure that products and services are consistent, reliable and of good quality, while also helping businesses find ways to reduce cost by minimizing waste and errors, key tools for increasing productivity. Warfel Promoted to Vice President

April 18, 2016 – David B. Warfel has been promoted to the new position of Vice President, Global Marketing. Warfel had been serving as Director of Global Marketing for the company since 2008.

Warfel has held positions in both corporate and agency marketing with extensive international experience developing consumer brands in Central and Western Europe and Asia. Prior to his work at Zippo, he served as Executive Vice President for Billing Service Group in London, England; Vice President, Management Supervisor with BBDO advertising agency and Account Supervisor with Young and Rubicam.

In his new role, Warfel will oversee all domestic, international, and distributor marketing programs and corporate brand development. He will also provide senior marketing leadership for the company’s Ronson Consumer Products brand and for Zippo wholly owned subsidiary, W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company.

Mark Paup Named President and CEO

April 16, 2016– Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mark Paup has assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Zippo Manufacturing Company and its subsidiary, W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company. Paup takes over from current CEO Greg Booth, who retires after 16 years at the helm. In his 22 years at Zippo, Paup’s role in strategic planning, product diversification and in restructuring the sales and marketing departments is recognized by the Zippo Board of Directors as instrumental in boosting sales.

As CEO, Paup continues to enhance the company’s international expansion and to further establish Zippo as a lifestyle brand. Paup began his Zippo career in 1994 when he established the firm’s licensing department. He has also held the positions of National Sales Manager, European Sales Manager, and Global Marketing Director. He was the Vice President of Zippo Sales and Marketing from 2008 to March, 2016 and the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Case from 2014 to March, 2016.

Paup was appointed to the Zippo Board of Directors in 2011. He is also the President of the supervisory board of Zippo Europe S.A. and a director of Zippo Asia Ltd. In 2014 he directed the buy-out of Zippo’s European joint venture, affecting sales and distribution in six of Zippo’s most important overseas markets. In 2014 and 2015, he led the initiative to establish the wholly-owned subsidiary, Zippo China, in the company’s number one market abroad.

Finlow named VP of Sales

January 19, 2016 – Mark Paup, Zippo vice president of sales and marketing, has announced the appointment of Richard Finlow to the new positon of Vice President, Global Sales. In this role, he will be responsible for worldwide sales and business development for all three Zippo brands: Zippo, Case and Ronson. He will also be overseeing operations for all Zippo wholly owned subsidiaries overseas.

Finlow joined Zippo in 2010, directing European sales. In 2013, he was promoted to Managing Director for Europe, Middle East, and Africa following Zippo’s consolidation of several regional markets into a new division named Zippo Europe. He has been responsible for spearheading the company’s European, Middle East, and African business development initiatives and has directed the operations and staff of the company’s three European subsidiaries.

“We are excited to bring Richard’s extensive international business experience to this position. In addition to Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Richard will now direct sales programs in North America, Latin America, and Asia. Richard’s astute business acumen, leadership, can-do attitude, and enthusiasm for the Zippo brand make him the perfect fit for this appointment,” said Paup.

Zippo mourns the passing of founding family’s Sarah Blaisdell Dorn

January 12,2016 - Zippo announces the passing of Sarah Blaisdell Dorn, one of the long-time owners of the company. She was the daughter of Zippo founder George B. Blaisdell and the mother of current owner George B. Duke. Sarah Dorn died on January 10, 2016 after a brief illness. She was 88 years old.

Zippo President and CEO Greg Booth made this statement on behalf of all Zippo employees: “The entire Zippo family is saddened about the news of Sarah Dorn’s death. Along with her sister, Harriett, her involvement with the company started at the very beginning when their father, George Blaisdell, started the company. Sarah played a vital role in the growth and success of Zippo. She was also a big booster for Bradford, Pennsylvania and made countless contributions to many community organizations to help improve the lives of the people who lived in her hometown. Zippo will very much miss Sarah and she will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.”

Born November 22, 1927, in Buffalo, she is the daughter of the late George G. and Miriam (Barcroft) Blaisdell. On April 23, 1981, in the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Bradford, she married Richard B. Dorn who survives.

She was a 1945 graduate of Bradford High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College and later graduated from Katherine Gibbs Business Academy in New York City.

Sarah was actively involved with Zippo operations beginning in the early 1950s. Sarah and her sister Harriett B. Wick assumed ownership after the death of their father in 1978. Sarah served as Vice President and Treasurer on the Board of Directors of Zippo Manufacturing Company until her retirement. She maintained a seat on the Board of Directors until the time of her death.

Sarah was a member of the Board of Directors for many charitable organizations which supported health, welfare, social and leisure programs in and around Bradford. Sarah was especially proud to serve on the Board of Directors of the Philo and Sarah Blaisdell Foundation, which her father established in December of 1950. Through the Blaisdell Foundation, Sarah and Harriett established the Miriam Barcroft Blaisdell Scholarship which supports scholarships for 65 students annually. In 1993, Sarah received the Presidential Medal of Distinction from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford for her longtime support of the University. Her memberships included the Pennhills Club and the Bradford Club.

Surviving in addition to her husband Richard is one son, George B. (Rita Walters) Duke Sr.; one sister, Harriett Blaisdell (the late Robert H.) Wick; two grandchildren, Grant B. (Shane Baker) Duke and Sarah Duke; two step grandchildren, Kara Close and Beau Close; one nephew D. Blaise (Ann Anderson) Wick and Barbara Wick (Richard) Kearney; four step children, Missy (John) Warner, Terry Dorn, Mac (Lauri) Dorn, and Bruce (Carol) Dorn; six step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Paul C. Duke Jr., her second husband Thomas Blauser, one son Paul C. Duke III who died September 28, 2005, one grandson George B. Duke Jr., who died November 13, 2015, and one nephew Michael Quinn Wick who died October 16, 2005. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery, Bradford.
