Wired magizine picked the top 64 gadgets of all-time and put them in a single elimination, March Madness style tournment. The sixth-seeded Zippo lighter lost in the sweet-sixteen round to the Western Electric 500 telephone. The lighter did not go out of the tourney quietly; the lighter was billed with the Wired magazine hype: "For 75 years, the iconic Zippo has been the coolest way to start a fire, as well as one of the most reliable".
